Everything I write is fictional and any resemblance to real-life events is coincidental. Yes, I do write slash. Do I believe that this has happened in real life or will happen in the show? No. But I can daydream. ==}!{== This was the last time he walked away. He had been lingering close to me since the beginning of the case, after I’d overheard a bit of teasing from Rossi. Apparently, as Garcia had said on the plane, Hotch was dating. The worst of it was, I think, that I’d expected it to happen eventually. Everyone leaves eventually. But the fact that I was hurting? It was, when it came down to it, my fault. The bargain we’d made hadn’t included emotions, but emotions became involved anyway. He’d finally started smiling and even laughing again, and I’d seen it happen firsthand. Usually when we were in bed together, unwinding after a case, before the jet was supposed to take off the next morning. I’d see him wake up with that warmth in his eyes, a smile on his lips. He’d touch my cheek, tickle my side, make me laugh, and that would make him laugh, too. I thought that he was falling in love just like I was. But after going to Pakistan, after coming back and revealing what he’d been hiding from me for all this time, I’d already known it was over. Hearing about him dating was just confirmation. The case, all of it, was a silent farewell. He never said goodbye, never said that this was the end. But he stayed near me, talked about the case with me - and then he walked through the doors to speak to our perpetrator. It was the last time he walked away. Just like my father. Just like Gideon. Leaving my feelings raw, like I’d felt so many times before. I won’t be able to face him tomorrow. And I wonder if it might be my turn to walk away next time.
